New Publication Coming to Mailboxes

The fact that you are reading this article denotes one thing; you care about the Alexandria Garden District.

There is good reason to care. Regular readers are well aware of all that’s been happening in the “Historic Heart of Alexandria.” It’s a vibrant heart, beating with new blood as well as stalwart residents who are keeping Alexandria’s most interesting and diverse community a center of activity and pride. These are the people of the Garden District Neighborhood Foundation—the people who bring you this newsletter which chronicles such events like the ongoing Garden District Holiday Tour of Homes, moonlight bicycle rides, Ladies Garden District Stroll, block parties, the creation of the Community Garden and many more.

It’s no secret that great things are going on here. More great things are coming.
Some of you are already know that we are working to transform this e-mail newsletter into a monthly, print publication that will soon appear in mailboxes throughout the neighborhood. This is being done through N2 Publishing. N2 is a Wilmington, North Carolina-based company that produces high-quality neighborhood magazines for exceptional communities. A pdf version of the publication, to be called The Garden District Gazette, is set to replace this e-mail newsletter when the print version is launched. If you would like to find out more about N2 Publishing, you can do so by visiting the company’s website at www.n2pub.com.

The Garden District Gazette will tell the story of the homes, history and—most importantly—the people who make up Cenla’s most historically significant and exciting neighborhood. It will be written by the residents of the Garden District about the community they happily call home.

The Garden District Gazette will be free to residents, courtesy of many sponsors who have signed on to bring it to the community. Along with serving as a bridge to unite neighbors, the publication will also help connect businesses that provide goods and services to residents through monthly social events. We are still adding sponsors and are quickly approaching the time when The Garden District Gazette will be rolling off presses.

In addition, we plan to use the new magazine as a vehicle to extend a helping hand to those in need throughout our community and beyond. There are many good people in the Garden District who take to heart the Biblical principle, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” This is evident in events such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Porch Parties and Cheering Section and YWCA Volunteer Work Day.

It’s always been fun to muse about the rich history manifest in the many beautiful homes that line the brick-paved streets of Cenla’s most captivating community. It’s even more satisfying to know that the Garden District’s best days are still on the horizon.
